Many inmates in Finland live in “open prisons,” where they are allowed to own a vehicle, leave for work or school, and host overnight guests. Now, the country is funding educational programs where prisoners learn technology skills like artificial intelligence.

They said in the video that the prisoners are given the same opportunities. You’re talking about whether people take advantage of those opportunities. You don’t know how many prisoners take advantage of those opportunities. Stop judging.

TheMandalorian I didn’t say anything bad lol, you seem to not understand my comment

If you don’t want to study then don’t. If you don’t want to get a job then don’t. I mean Finland prisoners have the freedom that I never had before 18. Where you’re born is important I guess.

Imagine the prisoner showed such dedication in his courses just to get out and commit another murder for satisfaction

@JJ Numbers shows that it is less likely to happen compared to other countries’ prison treatment.

@JJ With the fairly low recidivism rate in Finland, that’s unlikely.

Just casually “he’s serving out a sentence for murder”
Aldous Huxley
The question is if this is going to make him regret anything

He says you should give people a chance and he’s a murderer. This is disgusting

@Mitchell Weymark you don’t know the circumstances. I agree with him
@Mitchell Weymark

@Mitchell Weymark people like you are the reason society has made no advancements
@Mitchell Weymark
Sunday Missal
@Derek R - you think it’s “progress” to let people get away with murder without being punished? He’s being rewarded!

@Sunday Missal I’m guessing the justice system and healthcare in Finland is also much better than in the US, and so they know very well what his mental state and criminal circumstances are. His chances of successfully committing another such offense are much lower than this relaxed environment implies. It’s not like they’d pull the American move of “violently suppress and/or dump back on the street.”
@Sunday Missal
Sunday Missal
@Finn Daly - I’m not defending the American system, but it’s a matter of justice that murderers be punished…

@Sunday Missal I’d adore to have a conversation with you. In the Quentin Tarantino film, ’ Inglorious Basterds ’ they all killed people. The righteous killed the Nazis. For a good reason.
@Sunday Missal
Mitchell Weymark
It’s ironic don’t you think? He had the equal rights of everyone else before he commited a crime. Of course if it was some sort of self defense case it’s different but they don’t mention that. I don’t know why he would get life for something like that.
Mitchell Weymark
@Derek R not all advancements are good ones from what the video shows he could take off from the jail never to be seen again before his sentence is even done
René Moncayo
@Sunday Missal he’s being reformed , to be rewarded , he’d have to get more than the standard Finn
@Sunday Missal
Rem Remm
@Derek R I feel like rewarding and letting people get away with murder is the definition of a primal society but okay.
Adam Gotlib
@Aldous Huxley and why should it be that important what he does and doesn’t regret. The principal reason for the existence of the criminal justice system is that less crimes are committed and society is safer as a whole. There are two methods to do it, one involves a carrot and one involves a stick. I don’t see how any one is better than the other. We can only judge the results they bring.
Edit: And well, to be fair, the name criminal justice is a bit misleading. It’s not about justice in the sense of making bad people feel bad. It’s a public institution and it is there to serve a function for the benefit of the society. That’s all.
@Aldous Huxley
